Shri Ram Centennial School organised an educational trip to Barli Development Institute for Rural Women, Indore. Barli denotes the central pillar which supports the tribal house. Children were shown how the institute prepares food for the 100 women by using the solar cookers. Students were also explained how vegetables are grown organically and used for the inmates. Children were explained how over the last several years all surplus vegetables and spices are being dried in specially designed low cost solar tunnel driers for use later when most vegetables are in short supply. Herbs, spices and fruits are also being dried in this way. Students enjoyed as Dr Yogesh Jadhav showed children Spinach, carrot, fenugreek and dried vegetables and some exotic Indian fruits like wood apple and Indian plum. Students tasted the fruits and enjoyed the whole trip and learned that how growing fruits and vegetables at home can be fun and an experiential learning.
